Govt files writ appeal before HC

Kochi, July 19 (UNI) The Kerala government today filed a writ appeal before the state High Court seeking to set aside the interim order of the single judge regarding the admissions in self-financing colleges in the state.

A division bench of the high court will consider the appeal tomorrow.

In the appeal filed by the Principal Secretary of the Government Higher Education Department, Commissioner of Entrance Examinations and Chairman of the Fee Regulatory Committee, it was submitted that the directions in the interim order, passed yesterday, were based on the repealed Act of 2004, which was impermissible in law.

The government further submitted that the interim directive of the single judge would result in great administrative difficulties.

The admission counselling, which started on July 10, will be over today. The seat allotment has to be made from July 23. If the order of the single judge is implemented, there will be a delay in the admission of students, which is against the public interest.

The single judge, in interim directive told the government to let the self-financing college managements fill 50 per cent of the seats and levy the fees as per the Justice K T Thomas committee recommendations, which was in operation last year.
