Delhi Police moves SC in Shivani Bhatnagar murder case

New Delhi, July 19 (UNI) The Delhi Police today moved the Supreme Court in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case challenging the Delhi High Court order, directing the trial court to decide their plea against showing the case diary to the accused people including former Haryana IGP prisons R K Sharma.

Delhi Police in its petition said since the case diary was a privilege document, it cannot be given to the accused people.

It may be noted here that presiding officer of fast track court Rajendra Kumar had allowed the plea of the accused for handing over the case diary to them.

R K Sharma, an IPS officer who is the main accused, had surrendered in 2002 when the court was about to declare him a proclaimed offender.

The bail application of Sharma is also pending in the High Court and he is seeking bail on the ground of inordinate delay in completion of the trial.

Shivani was the principal correspondent of the Indian Express at the time of her murder on January 23 1999.
