Connect introduces uniform rates in Punjab

New Delhi, July 19 (UNI) Telecom service provider in Punjab, Connect, today said that all calls made within the state to any telecom network through GSM, CDMA, WLL or Fixed Line phones will be charged as local at Rs 1.20 per 3 minutes from today.

The reduction in call charges has resulted in a drop of 75 per cent in the rates applicable on the Connect network for calls made to mobile phones in Punjab and Chandigarh.

Moreover, the new rates will effectively reduce the call charges by 67 per cent for calls made by Connect subscribers to any fixed line phone beyond a radius of 50 km within the state of Punjab and Chandigarh.

The new tariff plan will be available to all existing subscribers of Connect fixed line phones as well to subscribers enrolling for new connections from today.

''This is the first time in the history of Indian telephony that any telecom operator has offered uniform tariffs across all available networks. Connect has always endeavoured to provide its customers an array of options to suit their requirements. Launch of the new tariff plan which makes every call in the state of Punjab and Chandigarh a local call, is a step in this direction,'' HFCL Infotel Ltd Chairman Mahendra Nahata said Under the new tariff, Connect subscribers will be charged a local pulse rate (of 180 seconds) for calls to any phone in Punjab and Chandigarh. Calls to mobile phones were earlier being charged at Rs 1.20 per 45 seconds and calls to fixed line phones beyond a radius of 50 km were being charged at Rs 1.20 per 60 seconds.

''The new tariff will offer maximum benefits to all our subscribers, irrespective of the plan they choose. This tariff would result in huge savings for both business and home users across Punjab and Chandigarh,'' HFCL CEO Surendra Lunia said.

Connect subscribers who wish to avail this new tariff can call 1920 from their Connect phone for more details.

Connect is a business venture of Himachal Futuristic Communications Ltd (HFCL), and the first private basic telephony services provider in Punjab. With an investment of over Rs 1400 crore, HFCL Infotel, has set up a state-of-the-art network in over 130 towns and cities in Punjab.
