Cabinet to discuss 6th pay commission tomorrow
New Delhi, July 19 (UNI) The union cabinet meeting here tomorrow morning is likely to discuss setting up of the sixth pay commission, officials said today.
The finance ministry has already circulated the cabinet note for constituting the panel.
While the pay panel has been in the works for nearly six months, setting the ball rolling and preparing the ground has taken a while.
Government officials said that the panel, to be set up once the cabinet nod is received, will be mandated to look at the salary structure for all central government employees and suggest ways to improve the functioning the government given the change in its role.
Besides, the commission will look at providing suitable incentives for performance, officials said.
Till the finalisation of the recommendation, the commission can also suggest an interim relief. Officials said that the panel is expected to be constituted shortly and a report is expected in 2008.
