BJYM protest against comments on Hindu deities
Patna, Jul 19 (UNI) Irked at the objectionable comments on Hindu deities made in a book of IGNOU, the Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) today demanded immediate resignation of Union Human Resources Development Minister Arjun Singh and dismissal of the committee which had approved the book.
BJYM took out a rally here and burnt an effigy of Mr Singh demanding his immediate resignation as 'he had hurt' the religious sentiments and faith.
BJYM activists marched to the regional office of IGNOU and put a lock on the gate in protest against the book being taught in the syllabus of History in MA final since 2005.
After burning the minister in effigy BJYM president Satyendra Kushwaha, its state spokesperson Sanjay Kumar Gupta and Morchas state executive committee member Amit Ranjan said Gods and Godesses were symbols of belief and the deities had been 'humiliated at the behest of Mr Singh'.
Demanding scrapping of the book Dharmik Paramparayan Aur Bhakti Darshan(religious traditions and glimpse of believes) from the syllabus of IGNOU they asked to remove the author of the book immediately and dismiss those who had approved the ''highly objectionable'' book.
Referring to the portions which created a flutter specially among the youth, Mr Kushwaha said such acts should not be encouraged and the morcha would continue the agitation if its demands were not conceeded.
