Birth and death registration 100% in Goa
Ranchi, Jul 19 (UNI) From exisitng 28.5 per cent, the Jharkhand government has targetted cent per cent in terms of birth and death rate registration by 2010 in the state.
Goa tops the list with cent per cent success in this category.
A state-level two-day workshop began here today to discuss the topic and speakers were of the opinion that such data was required for most of the projects are ''human centred''.
Mr Phuleshwar Ravidas, director of Statistics and Evaluation said it was necessary to make people aware so that they took initiative in this regard.
He said people should not think that it was the responsibility of the government only, adding every govenment policy was made keeping in view these vital statistics.
Mr Ravidas said a stringent policy would be prepared to achieve the cent per cent target.
Mr Arshad Hussain of Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra, an NGO, gave a gist of universal birth registration which showed the figure dwindling between 50 to 90 per cent in states like Uttranchal, Orrisa and Madhya Pradesh.
Expressing concern over registration rate in Jharkhand he said it stood at 28.5, lower than the national average of 55 per cent.
