Mumbai beggars earn Rs 180 cr

Mumbai, Jul 19: Beggars of Mumbai earn a total income of Rs 180 crore per annum, said Minister of State for Social Justice Dharmarao Baba Atram here today.

Replying to the short discussion initiated by Vilas Avachat (Sena), Mr Atram said that amendments will be made in the law to remove the beggars from the city.

In 1971 there were 55,000 beggars in the city but later no headcount of beggars was done, he added.
