As many as 27 Cholera positive cases detected in Vadodara
Vadodara, July 19 (UNI) Five days after the district authorities declared Channi Nagarpalika as cholera-hit, 18 more people had tested positive for cholera as scores of others were treated for gastro-enteritis and diarrhoea in different hospitals in the city.
Admitting that the number of cholera positive cases had increased to 27 during the past one week, Chief District Health Officer (CDHO) Dr Bhagwat Etare said five more people were admitted to the hospital with similar symptoms yesterday. The fluid samples were collected for testing.
Claiming that the outbreak of cholera was now under control, Dr Etare said they had started reducing the strength of the doctors and para-medical staff from the affected areas following improvement in the situation.
Though there was no report of any casualty due to the outbreak of cholera, the disease had spread panic in Chhani and its neighbouring villages as hundreds of people, including women and children, had reportedly suffered from water-borne diseases during the last fortnight.
Sources in the CDHO office said about 90 patients were still admitted to Chhani PHC, SSG and other hospitals in the city.
Meanwhile, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) authorities had sent its medical team and taken measures to ensure supply of safe drinking water to the people living in the affected areas.
