A TSR jawan injured in encounter with militants

Agartala, July 19 (UNI) A Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan was injured in an encounter with the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militants in Tripura's Dhalai district today.

Police said the encounter took place when the TSR jawans, who were escorting a Railway Protection Force (RPF) party during a jungle training at remote Bhabakumar village inside longtharai Hill Range, were attacked by the NLFT gunmen.

A rifleman, who received bullet injuries, was admitted to a hospital.

The militants, however, managed to escape in the dense jungle, police added.

In a separate incident, an NLFT (NB-group) cadre was killed in group clash at Ramkumar Basti under Champahowar police sttion in Khowai sub-division of West District yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Swapan Telenga.

Another ecnounter took place yesterday between the TSR jawans and underground NLFT militants under Champahowar police station also in West District.

There was, however, no casualty on either side, police said.
