TTD appoints 20 women barbers in Tirumala temple.

Tirupati, June 18 (UNI) For the first time in the history of Tirumala temple, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams(TTD) today appointed 20 women barbers to work in the Kalyanakatta(tonsuring centre) of the Tirumala temple, abode of Lord Venkateswara.

Talking to newspersons here, TTD Joint Executive Officer, Balaramaiah said if required, more women barbers would be appointed.

In view of opposition to the appointment of women barbers in Kalyanakatta by the Agama Pandits earlier, the TTD had stopped their appointments .

Following the intervention of the Andhra Pradesh High Court and direction from the State Women Commission, Mr Balaramaiah had selected 20 candidates, out of 96 appeared for the interview.
