Serious threat to Guwahati railway station

Guwahati, Jul 18 (UNI) The Asom Government has received intelligence inputs of a possible attack on the Guwahati railway station by jehadi elements using ULFA or NDFB activists as frontmen.

This morning the top brass of the city administration, including SSP Nitul Gogoi, Deputy Commissioner Sameer Sinha, Railway SP Partha Sarathi Mahanta and DIG (Central Western Range) A A Singh Kashyap, visited the Guwahati railway station and reviewed security measures.

Already 16 close circuit television cameras had been installed and those were being monitored routinely, Railway SP Partha Sarathi Mahanta said.

''We have got feedback of a possible attempt by the Muslim fundamentalist group, '' said Mr Gogoi, the SSP of Guwahati.

Meanwhile, DGP Deepak Naryan Dutta told media that ULFA might strike in lower Asom as retaliation to the recent killing of four top ULFA leaders.

Guwahati station had long been the target of the militant groups, he informed.
