Sania-Marta pair enters second round of Cincinnati Open
Cincinnati, Ohio, July 18 (UNI) Sania Mirza and her Polish partner Marta Domachowska sailed into the second round with a facile 6-4, 6-3 win over the South African-Venezuelan pair of Natalie Grandin and Milagros Sequera in the 175,000 dollar Cincinnati Open here.
The third seed Indo-Polish pair will now take on the unseeded pair of Uzbek Varvara Lepchenko and Chinese Meng Yuan, who beat the Russian-Georgian duo of Vasilisa Bardina and Salome Devidze.
Sania will also start her singles campaign later today against American Alexandra Stevenson.
The Indian teen and her Polish partner capitalised on the mistakes committed by their opponents and broke them thrice before comfortably clinching the first set.
The second set also took little effort from Sania and Marta as they smashed 35 winners on thier way to sealing the match in their favour.
Meanwhile, Shikha Uberoi and her Canadian comrade-in-arm Maureen Drake will be up against the top seed Italian-Argentine pair of Maria Elena Camerin and Gisela Dulko in their first round match of the women's doubles.
Shikha has already dropped out of contention in the singles competition after her second round loss in the qualifiers.
