Postal employee arrested for stealing cheque leaves
Madikeri, Karnataka, July 18 (UNI) A Postal department employee and his accomplice have been arrested on charges of stealing cheque leaves and trying to encash it.
Police said the Postal employee, Manukumar of Kuttandi village, had stolen a few cheque leaves from a parcel sent by the Corporation Bank to one of its client Shahul Hamid. Manukumar, along with his neighbour, had then encashed Rs 2,000 from the account of Hamid, living in Mumbai, by forging his signature some time ago. Emboldened by their successful first try, they tried to encash Rs 10,000 yesterday. However, luck was not in their favour this time.
On a complaint from Hamid about the missing cheque leaves, Bank Manager Manohar grew suspicious and quizzed Manukumar who attempted to encash the cheque. On confession, a complaint was lodged with the police. Virajpet police arrested the duo and sent them to judicial custody.
