One lakh sachets of arrack valued Rs 12.5 lakh seized

Chennai, July 18 (UNI) Police have seized one lakh sachets of arrack worth Rs 12.5 lakh, smuggled from neighbouring Karnataka at suburbam Puzhal yesterday.

City Police Commissioner Latika Saran told newspersons that acting on a tip-off, a police party conducted a vehicle check. The police signalled a particular lorry to stop, but the driver did not heed and sped away. However, police chased the lorry to a distance of five km, intercepted the vehicle, and confiscated the arrack sachets.

Five persons were arrested in this connection, she said.
