Official clarifies on ''Bharat Mata Ki Jai'' slogan controversy

Jammu, July 18 (UNI) Jammu Divisional Commissioner Pramod Jain today clarified that he has not banned ' Bharat Mata Ki Jai' slogan during Shri Budha Amarnath yatra in Poonch district as reported in a section of press.

'' I am astonished to see a statement published in a local newspaper on my behalf with regard to the slogan,'' he said.

Mr Jain pointed out that during his visit to Poonch yesterday to review the security arrangements for the Yatra he had said no provocative slogans should be raised by the Yatris as it may attract militants attention and might be targeted.

BJP and Janata Dal (United) today held protests in the city against the Divisional Commissioner's reported statement.
