Make public facts about Kandahar money transfer: Cong

Ahmedabad, July 18 (UNI) The Gujarat Congress today demanded former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to come out clear with the facts about Rs 900 crore demanded by three Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists in lieu of the release of the passengers of the hijacked Indian Airlines flight from Kathmandu.

In a resolution passed in the Congress Legislative Party meeting, the party demanded that Mr Vajpayee should make public the details about the money. ''That the money was given to the terrorists finds mention in the then Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh's recently released book,'' it said.

Addressing the meeting, Leader of the Opposition Arjun Modhvadia alleged that the Narendra Modi government in the past four years has unleashed a reign of terror. Accusing it of indulging in ''state-sponsored terrorism'', he said the government has an attitude of intolerance and engineered assaults on people opposed to it.

In another resolution, the party alleged that there had been large-sale irregularities in the implementation of the Jyoti Gram Yojana (rural electrification programme) of the Gujarat government and demanded an inquiry into it.

''There has been a hike in duty on agricultural electric connections and corrupt means have been adopted in the release of new connections under the Tatkal Yojana,'' it said.

The party statement also demanded action against those power companies which were charging customers heavily by obtaining voluntary declarations about consumption from them.
