'K'taka striving to bring dalits to mainstream'
Bangalore, Jul 18: The Karnataka Government will make all efforts to bring dalits to mainstream of society to uplift them, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy announced today.
Speaking after releasing a book, ''Dalits of America-Their Gandhis and Ambedkars,'' penned by eminent journalist C M Ramachandra, at a simple ceremony here, he said it was unfortunate that racism prevailed in a developed country like the United States.
Mr Kumaraswamy appreciated Mr Ramachandra for employing his literary talent to highlight the plight of the deprived sections of the society.
Speaking on his book, fifth in a series, Mr Ramachandra said the emancipation of millions of blacks in the United States from the scourge of slavery and racial discrimination was indeed fascinating.
However, even after the historic abolition of the practice of slavery and conferment of several human rights to blacks, including the right to vote, traces of racism was still found in the US, he added.
Mr Ramachandra opined that there was need for exchange of delegations of oppressed groups between India and the US for better understanding of their conditions in the respective countries.
Home Minister M P Prakash and Kannada Authority Chairman Siddhalingaiah also spoke on the occasion.
