Heavy rains lash Delhi
New Delhi, July 18 (UNI) Heavy rains lashed the national capital this morning, bringing about a sudden coolness in the air.
The rains, accompanied by a heavy squall, brought down the minimum temperature to below 28 Degree Celsius, from 29.5 Degree C yesterday.
Although about 3 mm of rainfall had been recorded in the capital till 0830 hours, the total rainfall is expected to be much more as heavy showers are still continuing.
This morning's spell of heavy rains, which began at around 0700 hours, follows light rains in the capital last afternoon.
Today's heavy showers come after almost a week of a lull in rainfall activity in Delhi after last Wednesday's heavy showers.
Weathermen say the sudden burst of rainfall in the capital was because of the movement low pressure area, that led to heavy rainfall over Jharkhand, Orissa, Chhattisgarh and east Madhya Pradesh in the past few days, in a west-northwesterly direction.
Consequently, the rainfall activity in east Rajasthan and North-West India as well as in west Madhya Pradesh, central Maharashtra and Gujarat was likely to increase during next few days.
For Delhi, the weather office have forecast more spells of rain and thundershowers later today and tomorrow.
