HC adjourns hearing PIL on Sivaji Statue tomorrow
Chennai, July 18 (UNI) Madras High Court today adjourned till tomorrow, further hearing on the Public Interest Litigation(PIL), seeking to restrain the authorities from permitting the installation of popular filmstar Sivaji Ganesan statue opposite to Gandhi statue on Marina.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Mr Justice D Murugesan adjourned till tomorrow, the hearing on the PIL filed by a freedom fighter P N Srinivasan.
When the case came up for hearing, Advocate General R Viduthalai submitted that the statue cannot be removed without causing damage to it.
The Senior Counsel R Gandhi, appearing for the petitioner, submitted that Nehru Statue, which was installed in Kathipara Junction, was removed twice, without causing any damage to it.
Kishore Nagappa, an expert was of the opinion the statue can be removed without damaging it.
The bench said that they consulted experts and came to know that there was bound to be damage, if the statue was removed. The removal, however, was not impossible, they added.
They said both the possiblities existed. So let us hear the matter and pass orders on merit tomorrow they said.
