Four big cats dead
Ranchi, July 18 (UNI) Four big cats, including a white tiger, died in the last ten days at Birsa Munda Wildlife park located in the state capital.
State Chief Wildlife Warden A K Singh told UNI that the tigers died because of Bebesiosis, a protozoa-borne disease.
Mr Singh said a high level meeting was called to discusss the matter. He also termed the disease to be a natural calamity and refused to take any action against the concerned employees.
Meanwhile, Director of Wildlife Park Dipak Singh said the disease had spread due to lack of knowledge and caused the death of four tigers including one white tiger and a leopard.
The white tiger died last evening.
The director said the remaining 10 lions, four tigers and a leopard did not show any signs of Bebesiosis, adding that earlier six of them had primary symptoms of the disease but were cured.
A medical team led by an animal husbandry doctor from central zoo was keeping an eye on the condition of the tigers.
