Former Indian footballer Sathyan killed in mishap
Chennai, Jul 18 (UNI) Former India football captain V P Sathyan died here today after being run over by a train.
Police said, the 35 year-old Sathyan, who originally hails from Kerala, was run over by the Kanyakumari-Chennai Egmore Express at the suburban Pallavaram railway station.
Sathyan, a talented deep defender, who was also the captain of the Indian team some years ago, was crossing the track without knowing that the speeding train was approaching.
The train suffered a detention of 15 minutes, following the mishap.
Police removed the Sathyan's body to the government hospital in the nearby suburb Chrompet for post-mortem.
Police are investigating whether it was a case of accident or suicide.
Sathyan was employed with the Indian bank here. He was also serving as the coach of the Bank's football team.
