Energy Institute, India comes into existance

New Delhi , July 18 (UNI) The Energy Institute, UK (EI) and Indian School of Petroleum (ISP) collaborated to establish the Energy Institute, India, to offer courses for professionals in this industry.

The purpose of the Energy Institute is to promote safe, environmentally responsible and efficient supply and use of energy in all its forms and applications, BHP Billiton Advisory Board Chairman M S Ramachandran, told UNI at the sidelines of the function last night.

''The institute will conduct training courses on energy and offer fellowships'' he said.

Former Petroleum Secretary S C tripathi has been nominated to be the first Chairman of the Board of EI, India.

Meanwhile, the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) and Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd (MCX) signed an MoU to develop and offer courses for professionals in the field of energy trading in the commodity market.

MCX joint MD Lamon Rutten said ''Under the aegis of this alliance, we will introduce educational programmes for MCX members and their representatives, personnel employed in the public and private sector as well as students.'' As per the agreement, MCX will set up web training based simulated trading session to simulate real trading situations thereby supplementing students' academic knowledge with practical experience.

The exchange may also offer employment opportunities to the programme participants for employment in member organisations, Mr Rutten added.
