Commission willing to reconsider decision on minority status

New Delhi, July 18 (UNI) National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions today said it was willing to reconsider its decision granting minority status to six self-financing professional institutions in Kerala if the state government makes a ''reasoned request''.

''If the government has any valid reason, we could reconsider the decision,'' said Commission Member Valsan Thampu.

According to him, the state government could bring to the notice of the Commission any reasons like ''any point of law overlooked''.

''The government will have to make a reasoned request,'' he added.

The state government had earlier objected to the decision of the Commission, which was taken before the Kerala Professional Colleges Act was passed by the state Assembly outling new rules for admission to self-financing professional colleges.
