Azad announce Rs one crore for Gujjar and Bakerwal in J and K

Srinagar, July 18 (UNI) Announcing Rs one crore for renovation of Gujjar and Bakderwal hostel buildings in the state, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said all possible measures would be taken for speedy socio-economic development of these communities.

Gujjars, Bakarwals and other such communities have so far remained backward, and the government has decided to take all measures for their upliftment, Mr Azad said while chairing meeting of the State Advisory Board for the Development of Gujjars and Bakarwals here.

Saying that education is key to all progress, he laid stress on ensuring children of these communities get quality education.

He also called for promotion of education among these communities.

Mr Azad announced Rs one crore for renovation of Gujjar and Bakarwal hostel buildings to provide better accommodation facilities and congenial atmosphere for the students of these communities to pursue their education.

He also ordered release of Rs 14 lakh for meeting expenditure on account of providing pre-matric scholarships to the students of these communities.

He further announced constitution of a committee under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary with regard to enhancing the amount of scholarship for the students of Gujjar and Bakerwal communities.

The Chief Minister said that for effective and better implementation of the Board decisions, a core group would be set up to meet after every two months and report progress. This mechanism, he said, would go a long way in monitoring implementation of the Board decisions speedily so that the targeted sections get optimally benefited.
