Tehri Stage-I project synchronised with Northern Grid

New Delhi, July 17 (UNI) In a substantial addition to the energy pool of power-starved Northern region, the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Ltd (THDC) today successfully synchronised the 250 MW Unit-IV of Tehri Hydro Electric Project Stage-I with the Northern Grid.

The Tehri Hydro Electric Project Stage-I will eventually add 1,000 MW capacity to the Northern Grid comprising four units of 250 MW each, benefitting the nine beneficiary states of the Northern Region.

The Tehri Power Station of the THDC, a joint venture of the Government of India and the Uttar Pradesh Government, is connected to the Northern Grid through 400 KV lines laid by PowerGrid Corporation of India.

Present at the time of the synchronisation were THDC Chairman-cum-Managing Director R K Sharma, Director (Personnel) A S Bisht, E D (Construction) S K Shukla and officers and engineers of the THDC, Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd and other agencies working in the project besides Russian, German and other foreign engineers.

The energy generated by the Tehri project would bring peak power and further stabilise the Northern Grid. The Tehri Project will help in irrigation in Western Uttar Pradesh besides providing additional irrigation and drinking water facilities to Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
