Students stage protest in front of police station

Pondicherry, July 17 (UNI) Students of Motilal Nehru Polytechnic here today abstained from classes and staged a "road roko" near Lawspet police station to press their demands.

The agitation was for clearing the scarcity of teachers and for appointing a permanent principal in the polytechnic.

Following police intervention, the students called off their road roko.

Meanwhile, the jail wardens here attended duty wearing badges displaying list of their demands.

Their demands were wage increase, appointment of District Collector or Chief Secretary as I G prisons and speedy construction of the new jail building.

They would attend duty wearing the badges for the next three days.
