Special police force to come up in Hazira industrial area
Surat, July 17 (UNI) Sanctioning a special police force by the Union as well as the state government has activated the formation of a special security wing for the industrial areas along the Hazira coast, police sources said here.
According to the plan, one special police station will be constructed at a cost of Rs 25 lakh at Hazira and two police outposts will also be formed.
The jurisdiction of the police station will be 30 km along the coast and six nautical miles. There will be two police outposts at Magdalla and Uber.
The force will be provided with two 12-tonne vessels and a five tonne vessel for search operations over the sea. The vessels will get an anchoring facility at Essar Jetty.
There will be a total of 23 policemen including 14 constables, four head constables, three assistant sub-inspectors, and two police sub inspectors. They be given special training in specialised oerations in both at sea and land level, the sources said.
City police commissioner Sudhir Sinha said the full operation of the police station will start by May next year. The force will operate in co-ordination with the Navy, Coast Guard, Customs, Boarder Security Force and Intelligence departments, the sources added.
The special force will be a major boost to the industrial hub where there is an investment over Rs.95,000 crore, the sorces said.
