Sophisticated weapons sought for Mysore palace security
Mysore, July 17 (UNI) City Police Commissioner Praveen Sood has approached the Karnataka Government, seeking more sophisticated weapons for guarding the famous Mysore palace, following the stepped up security alert in the wake of the Mumbai bomb blasts.
Police sources told UNI that security at the major tourist attraction had been tightened and more curbs imposed on tourists.
The Government had provided seven sten guns and the palace security personnel underwent three-day training in operating the new weapon.
Visitors were allowed into the palace only through the Southern Varaha gate and all other entries have been closed. All tourists have to pass through metal detectors and police thoroughly frisked them.
Mr Sood visited the palace today and inspected the new security arrangements.
