Sagar University's diamond jubilee

Bhopal, July 17: Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat will be the chief guest at the diamond jubilee celebrations of the University of Sagar, the 16th university set up in undivided India, tomorrow.

Mr Shekhawat will reach Sagar via Jabalpur tomorrow and return to New Delhi the same day.

Noted educationist and jurist Dr Hari Singh Gaur contributed his life-time savings for setting up the university on July 18, 1946.

Former teachers and other employees who joined the institute in 1946 will be honoured during the celebrations.

Spread over 830 acres, the university, named after its founder Dr Hari Singh Gaur, has at present 38 departments and 91 colleges affiliated to it. Its library, inaugurated by then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, has about 3 lakh books.
