Rengali Dam water likely to inundate Deulbera Colliery
Bhubaneswar, Jul 17 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha(BJYM) president Dharmendra Pradhan today warned that the release of water from the Rengali Dam in the right canal will lead to inundation in the Deulbera Colliery in Talcher and loss of lives.
Quoting the report of the Director of Mines safety(Bhubaneswar circle), Mr Pradhan told newsmen here that the right main canal of Rengali Dam have been constructed over the underground working of the Deulbera Colliery ignoring the danger of inundation by the experts.
The BJP MP demanded that the mining in the Deulbera be forthwith stopped to protect the lives of the mine workers as well the people of Talcher town as water released by the Rengali Dam might cause a major disaster in the area. A major habitation of Talcher town, he said, was located above the Deulbera underground mine.
Mr Pradhan said a big void have been detected measuring 600 mt in length, 400 mt width with a deep hole varying from 10 feet to 15 feet in the Deulbera mines.
In the event of water released in the Rengali Right Canal, the underground working of the Deulbera mines would be inundated as the part of canal passed from close proximity of unstable underground working of the colliery.
This would lead to loss of human lives in the mines as at any given point of time about 80 mine workers are engaged in the mining activities.
The BJP MP cautioned that the entire Talcher town would be unsafe if proper measures were not taken to prevent the flow of water into the Rengali Right Canal.
