Rape case accused commits suicide as trial begins

Pondicherry,July 17 (UNI) A 50-year-old man, who was on bail in a rape case, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his house at Thirukkanur, near here, today.

According to police, Krishnamurty allegedly raped a nine-year-old girl in June last year and the Thirukkanur police arrested him.

A local court later granted bail.

In the meanwhile, the trial was slated for today and Krishnamurty, reportedly worried about the case, committed suicide, police said.
