Police implement tough security measures for President's visit

Mumbai, July 17 (UNI) A tight security ring has been thrown around the city in view of President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam's visit to the metropolis tomorrow.

The President, upon his arrival in Mumbai tomorrow, will immediately proceed to the KEM Hospital, State Government's Protocol Department sources informed. Thereafter, he will visit the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and interact with young scientists and engineers.

On July 18, the second day of his two-day visit here, Dr Kalam will inaugurate the 150th anniversary of Mumbai University.

On the same day, he will also launch the centenary celebrations of the Indian Merchants Chamber (IMC). He is also scheduled to visit the Asian Heart Institute at Bandra.

Dr Kalam, thereafter, will also visit the Mahim railway station and pay homage to the blast victims by observing a two-minute silence at 1824 hours which, incidentally, is the time when the first of the seven blasts occurred here on July 11.

The Mumbai police as an precaution has evicted all the hawkers near the Mumbai University campus in view of the President's visit.

All the railway stalls and nearby vendors including those having Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) licenses will remain closed as the Mumbai police do not want to take any risk during the visit of the President.

Meanwhile the Mumbai police has also beefed up security in and around the Shanmukhanand Hall, where Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a gathering at 1800 hrs.
