Planning Commission targets rapid inclusive growth

Kolkata, Jul 17 (UNI) The 11th five year plan is targetting faster and more inclusive growth,Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia said here today.

"We need to double the agricultural growth in order to achieve inclusive growth," Mr Alhuwalia said on the sidelines of the consultations on the draft approach paper of planning commission for the 11th five year plan.

He also said the manufacturing sector was poised to register double digit growth and the country needs to put more emphasis on the infrastuctural development so as to generate greater employement.

Bridging of regional imbalances will be another major area of thrust, he said.

"We need to empower the poor by formulating strategies for spreading education among the masses," he opined.

He also welcomed criticism from different corners regarding the plan paper's more focus on growth and said that more discussions were required for an inclusive growth plan.
