Norms thrown to winds while appointing Lok Ayukta: Congress

Bangalore, July 17 (UNI) The Congress in Karnataka today accused Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy of throwing all norms to the winds while appointing the new Lok Ayukta and misleading Governor T N Charturvedi in this regard and sought the Governor's intervention.

In a letter to the Governor, Leader of the Opposition in the Council H K Patil said the Government notification on the appointment had stated that the recommendation had been made after consulting the High Court Chief Justice, Assembly Speaker, Council Chairman and Leaders of the Opposition in both the Houses, as laid down under the Lok Ayukta Act, 1984. But, this was not actually true as the Chief Minister had just written a letter to him, for which he had sent a reply, and never bothered to take his views on the issue.

''I urge you to intervene in this matter imemdiately and set right the illegality committed by the Chief Minster while tendering his advise for the appointment,'' he said.
