MoU to support culture in Indian diaspora

New Delhi, July 17 (UNI) Traditional arts, culture and languages will get support in the Indian diaspora with the Overseas Indians Affairs Ministry today signing an agreement with the Indian Council for Culural Relations (ICCR).

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Ministry Secretary Nirmal Singh and ICCR Director-General Pavan K Varma, exchange of art groups, scholars, and academics would get a boost to promote interaction between India and overseas Indians in the cultural space.

The MoU also allows organising seminars concerning the diaspora and exhibitions in India and abroad, according to the Overseas Indians Affairs Ministry.

Cultural scholarships for children of overseas Indians will be instituted by the government besides setting up chairs in foreign universities in the field of diaspora studies, Indian history and culture, the Ministry said.
