Meghalaya Govt to sort out border issue with Asom, NGOs
Shillong, Jul 17 (UNI) The Joint Action Committee (JAC) in Meghalaya today asked the Congress-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government to solve the long-pending inter-state border issue with Asom.
In this regard, the JAC, a conglomeration of four organisations, Hynniewtrep National Youth Front, Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People, Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation and Joint Action Committee Jaintia Hills, would also meet state Chief Minister J D Rymbai to discuss on this issue.
Talking to newsmen after holding a closed-door meeting, JAC spokesperson G H Kharshanlor said they had decided to demand to the state government to sort out the inter-state border issue with Asom once for all.
Expressing concern with Asom police encroaching inside the state territory, Mr Kharshanlor urged the dismantling of the three Asom police outposts located at Moolaber, Khanduli and Sabuda village in Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya.
However, the JAC demanded from the state government to set up a state police outpost at Psiar in Block I and Sabuda in Block II area, inhabited by tribal Khasi-Pnar people in Karbi Anglong district, Asom.
