Identify SEZs to attract investors: Governor

Itanagar, Jul 17 (UNI) Governor S K Singh today exhorted senior police and civil officials to create a conducive atmosphere to woo investors to Arunachal Pradesh for its economic development.

''Special Economic Zones(SEZ) may have to be identified and an investment climate needs to be created so that large investors from outside are attracted to participate in the state's economic development and more internal revenue can be generated,'' he suggested while addressing the combined conference of deputy commissioners (DCs) and superintendents of police (SPs) here.

The foremost task of the DCs and SPs was to ensure proper maintenance of law and order, Mr Singh pointed out and added that no unruly element should be allowed to work against the unity and integrity of the state and its people.

''The tasks and challenges of our state are gigantic and demand close cooperation and interaction between the people and the government. It is important in a state like Arunachal, senior members of the police and civil services are motivated by a high moral code, better morale and professional competence to back up their ethical and efficiency related value system,'' he observed.

The image of the entire government gets judged through the people visible in governance, by the values pursued and implemented, he added.

Emphasising on the need to maintain close monitoring of programme implementation in the state and at the district level, the governor underscored the need for more frequent inspections of the administrative machinery and governance at various levels.

''The routine quarterly, half yearly and annual office inspections and submission of reports in prescribed formats on a regular basis needs to be reinforced and made mandatory at different levels,'' he stressed.

Stating that corruption was the most endemic and entrenched manifestation of a poor governance, Mr Singh stressed on reviewing all prevalent institutional arrangements in order to prevent corruption.

''All procedures, laws and regulations that breed corruption and come in the way of efficient delivery systems have to be eliminated,'' he observed.
