HC issues notice to Haryana DGP

Chandigarh, July 17 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notice to Haryana police chief Kanwar Nirmal Singh and others on a writ petition filed by Subhash alias Channi seeking directions for registration of a criminal case against IPS officer A S Chawla for allegedly threatening the petitioner in judicial custody.

Besides registration of the case against Mr Chawla, the petitioner has prayed for a CBI probe into the matter as local police would not conduct an impartial inquiry.

It has been alleged that on June 22, Mr Chawla had visited the Hisar Central jail where the petitioner was lodged as an undertrial in connection with an ongoing case. He threatened him with dire consequences unless he withdrew the writ petition.

Others agaainst whom the notices have been issued include state Chief Parliamentary Secretary Dharambir, CBI Director and Jaswant Singh spokesman for the DGP from village Dewan in district Hisar.
