'Give details about militant arrested from TRC'

Srinagar, July 17: Suspecting some conspiracy in the recent grenade attacks, particularly on tourists in the city, Chairman of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Omar Farooq today demanded ''full details'' of the person arrested from Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) after he hurled a hand grenade there on July 11.

People of the Kashmir valley have every right to know about the person overpowered public there and later handed over to the police at TRC after the grenade blast, the Mirwaiz said at a press conference after a three-hour-long Executive Council meeting at its Rajbagh headquarters here this afternoon.

He said confusion is being created in the Kashmir valley about the present situation.

We want to know who is he (militant)... what happened to him in police custody.. which group he belongs to, the Mirwaiz said adding all these details should come out so that everybody knows who are the elements behind these attacks.

He said people will also know the elements who want to derail the peace process.

Without naming anyone, he said some elements are working to deliberately derail the process because of their vested interests.

People on July 11 overpowered a militant after he hurled a hand grenade near TRC in which six people were injured. He was later handed over to the police. Police later identified him as a militant of Pakistan based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) Nazir Ahmad Rather, a resident of Sumbal.
