Functioning of Pondy electricity department affected

Pondicherry, July 17(UNI) Functioning of the electricity department was affected today as the Joint Action Committee of electricity department employees association began an indefinite strike to press their demands.

The strike was for the removal of the pay anomalies in the fifth pay commission recommendations and for granting due promotion.

According to Committee sources, about 2,000 employees from all the four regions of the Union Territory participated in the strike.

They gathered in front of the head office at Ouppalam and staged a demonstration.

Meanwhile, part time employees of the art and culture department today observed an half-day dharna infront of the Legislative Assembly demanding the government accord them permanent employees.
