CM visits camp for Kanwarias run by Muslims

New Delhi, Jul 17 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today inaugurated this years 'Sadbhawana Kanwaria Camp' at Jafrabad in East Delhi.

Terming the camp as a unique and excellent example of Hindu-Muslim unity and cultural synthesis, Ms Dikshit stressed that such camps should be organised in other areas of the city as well.

This, the chief minister said, would go a long way in establishing amity and social harmony.

Ms Dikshit said the camp at Jafrabad had established an identity of its own owing to the fact that Hindu Kanwarias going to Haridwar were looked after and served by people from the Muslim community.

She termed the camp, which was being organised for the past 13 years as an example for the people of the rest of the country.

Local MLA Mateen Ahmed and Councillor Zamir Ahmed Munna were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Delhi Development Minister Rajkumar Chauhan today inspected Kanwaria camps at different parts of the capital.

During his visit, the minister talked with Kanwarias and instructed the officials to solve problems being faced by them at the earliest.

He said the government had orgainsed 54 camps that would run up to July 23. Delhi Police would provide special security whereas traffic police would regulate traffic in such a way that both Kanwarias and the general public could go side by side smoothly.

He said Municipal Corporation of Delhi officials had been directed to maintain cleanliness whereas Delhi Jal Board officials were instructed to make every arragement for potable water for Kanwarias. The power companies would provide 24 hours power supply to these camps.
