Chhattisgarh incident: AP police put on alert

Hyderabad, July 17 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy today condemned the Naxal attack on the CRPF Rehabilitation Camp at Erabor Village of Chhattisgarh and said the police had been put on alert in the entire state.

Reacting to the incident in which armed naxals killed 25 people and injured 150 at the camp, Mr Reddy said the police were put on alert and joint combing operations conducted on Chattisgarh-Andhra Pradesh border.

''Police vigil has been stepped up in the naxal-infested districts of the state. Police have also intensified vehicle checks,'' he added.

Mr Reddy said the state was ready to extend assistance if Chhattisgarh Government sought its help. Some of those seriously injured in the attack were being brought to Bhadrachalam in Khammam district in Andhra Pradesh for treatment.

It was learnt as many as 16 Salwa Judum activists were airlifted to Bhadrachalam.

Mr Reddy said joint operations were yielding good results in the border districts. Last month, a top Maoist leader was killed in Chhattisgarh during the combing operations and a AK-47 rifle seized from the scene of the encounter.
