BSF, BDR exchange fire in Bengal
Balurghat, Jul 17 (UNI) The Bangladesh Rifles today fired at the Border Security Force at Laxminarayanpur in South Dinajpur district on the Indo Bangla border.
BSF sources said the BDR personnel first fired at them. They then retaliated firing two rounds.
However, no one was injured.
Tension prevailed in the area.
In another incident, BSF personnel shot dead a Bangladeshi smuggler in West Bengal's South Dinajpur district last night, the Commanding Officer of 172 Battalion said here today.
Tamijuddin Haque was gunned down at border outpost of Laxmi Narayanpur when he was crossing the border after stealing cattle from India, he said.
Tamijuddin hailed from Sapahar village of Naogaon district of Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Rifles had claimed the body.
He said the body will be handed over after a post-mortem.
