Absconding ruling SP MLA arrested, jailed
Bahraich, July 17 (UNI) Police today arrested an 'absconding' ruling Samajwadi Party MLA from Mahsi assembly constituency of the district in the case of attack on a policeman.
The MLA, Dilip Kumar Verma, was produced before special sessions judge M C Jain, who sent him to jail under judicial custody till August 2.
On November 14, 1995, Mr Verma had made an attempt on the life of police constable Shiv Sahai and indulged in racial slur of the dalit cop.
Later, a case was registered against him at the Dargah Sharif police station here.
The court issued several summons to Mr Verma for case hearings, but he ignored them and did not appear even once.
Consequently, the MLA was declared 'absconding' by the court and ordered for the attachment of his property.
However, the ruling SP leader was arrested in a ''dramatic manner'' and produced in the court.
