13 agitating advocates arrested
Dharwad, Karnataka, July 17 (UNI) As many as 13 advocates were arrested when they attempted to gherao Karnataka Governor T N Chaturvedi at the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) campus here today, protesting the inordinate delay in the functioning of the circuit bench of the Karnataka High Court at WALMI, near here.
Tension prevailed for some time in the varsity area when the advocates rushed towards the venue of the function, attended by the Governor. Police intervened and arrested them.
The agitators were shouting slogans against the Government for the delay in starting civil works for the circuit bench. State Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj S Horatti tried to pacify the agitated advocates, but they refused to talk to him.
Meanwhile, the agitation by the lawyers of the Dharwad Bar Association continued for the seventh day. They boycotted court proceedings and staged rasta roko and dharna.
Commissioner of Police Narayan Nadamani told UNI that the arrested lawyers were released later.
