WBSEB become second profit earning board in the country:Banerjee
Ranchi, Jul 16 (UNI) West Bengal Power and Labour minister Mrinal Banerjee said here today that due to the pro-labour policy of the government West Bengal State Electricity Board had become only the second state in the country to earn a profit.
Taking to UNI here on the sidelines of the CITU All India General Council Meeting, Mr Banerjee claimed that the provident fund contributory scheme for the the labourers of unorganised sector in the state was running very well. ''It is expected that the number of beneficiaries of the scheme, in which a labourer pays Rs 20 per month as his contribution to PF and an equal ammount is paid by the state government, will increase from seven lacs to ten lacs by March next year,''he said.
Mr Banerjee said WBSEB even six years ago was making heavy loss to the tune of about Rs 12 to 14 hundred crores, but the scene has changed completely now by getting the employees and officials more involved with the board and giving better output.
''I made them feel that the comany was theirs and the situation began to improve with the company earning a profit of Rs 80 crore last fiscal. The WBSEB is now the second such board after Chattisgarh which is earning profit.'' UNI RAJ KK AB 1824
