Vintage car mesmerise onlookers
Chennai, Jul 16: About 70 well-maintained vintage cars in striking colours, lined up for the second 'MyTVS Heritage Car Rally' in the city here.
The event was conductd by Madras Heritage Motoring club, hosted by TVS and flagged off by Sri Lankan spin wizard Muthiah Muralidharan.
The event, which attracted a good crowd of spectators and car lovers, had Packards, Citroens, Buicks, Vauxhalls, Morris-8s, Dodges, Austins, Bugfiats, Studebakers, Plymouths and Chryslers.
''I love old cars. It's good to have such rallies. We can get to know about them,'' observed Muralidharan in a brief interaction with mediapersons.
Some of the youngsters among the onlookers besieged Muralidharan for autographs.
The cars were categorised into various classes. Over three upto 1940, 1941-1960, 1961-1970. Meanwhile, the participants came in period costumes to create the mood of a bygone era of 'beautiful cars'.
The cars were well maintained and the proud owners of these vintage cars made it a memorable experience for the onlookers.
There were 22 different categories of awards based on the quality of restortion, originality, original colour combination, the oldest car to complete the rally and the working condition of the vehicle.
