Villager killed by forces due to mistaken identity in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 16 (UNI) A villager was killed by security forces due to mistaken identity in north Kashmir in the wee hours today, official sources said.

They said security forces opened fire when they saw a movement near a house at Chowgul Handwara in the frontier district of Kupwara.

Later, body of a villager Abli Wani was recovered in the area.

People in the area took to streets in protest against the incident and demanded action against the security force personnel responsible for killing Wani.

It was not, however, known whether Wani was carrying a lantern when he went out as advised by the security force officials.

The senior state government officials have also advised people to carry some light when they go out during night in case of emergency so that they could be identified by the security force ambush party.
