Spain pull back to 2-1 in Fed Cup semi against Italy

ZARAGOZA, Spain, July 16 (Reuters) Spain pulled a point back in their Fed Cup semi-final against Italy when Anabel Medina Garrigues powered to a 6-2 6-2 victory over Francesca Schiavone in today's reverse singles.

Medina Garrigues's victory over the Italian number one left Spain trailing 2-1 in a tie being played in suffocating heat on a clay surface in Zaragoza.

Italy took a commanding lead yesterday after straight-set wins in the singles rubbers, Flavia Pennetta crushing Medina Garrigues 6-3 6-0 in the opening match and Schiavone won through 6-4 7-5 against Lourdes Dominguez-Lino.

Italy will have another chance to win the tie when Pennetta takes on Dominguez-Lino in the second reverse singles later today.
