KRS reservoir all set to reach brim

Mysore, July 16 (UNI) After over a decade, the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) reservoir across river Cauvery, near here, is all set to reach its brim in mid-July itself.

The water level in the dam touched 123.90 ft, under one feet short of its full level of 124.80 ft. The inflow was 16,378 cusecs and the discharge 4,367 cusecs.

Last year on the same day, the level was 98.27 ft with an inflow of 4,667 cusecs. However, the level reached the maximum level in early August and maintained the same for nearly 100 days.

With incessant rains in the catchment areas in Kodagu, the inflow into the reservoir was steadily increasing and the irrigation authorities have issued an alert to people living on the banks of river Cauvery to move to safer places. The authorities were contemplating releasing water into the river tonight.

The water level in Kabini dam stood at 2,282.51 ft as against the maximum level of 2,284 ft. It recorded an inflow of 18,713 cusecs and the same quantum of water was let out. The level in Harangi reservoir was 2,856.57 ft as against its full level of 2,859 ft with the inflow and outflow of over 5,000 cusecs.
